It's finally here! Today is our event that we have been preparing for for months now. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful event. Today we are kick-starting the Aaron K Foundation, a multi-cultural support organization for immigrant families with children who have special needs. In my journey to help my beautiful son, Aaron Kahn get onto his path towards independence I have met many amazing people and have learned much about the resources available for children with special needs. The Aaron K Foundation serves two purposes. First, I want to create a strong foundation for my son to be able to continue his developmental therapy. Since beginning new treatments that he was afforded last year through the Mercury News Wish Foundation, Aaron has made ground breaking progress. For the first time in his life, at age 11, he has finally said a word I have always longed to hear, “Mom.” Aaron is more awake and aware than ever before and I have a renewed hope that he will someday be able to take his first steps towards independence. In addition, this new effort that I am naming after my son, “the Aaron K. Foundation” is here to help immigrant families to have hope for their own children, link them into a greater network of community support, and help them to find the developmental therapies that are best for their sons and daughters. The money that you donate today will help us to continue building this resource of support in the form of an online community forum, where people can share their stories and seek guidance from one another. It will also contain links and contacts to resources around California and beyond to help people to participate in these programs and find the help that their children need, and to have the courage to do so.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your generous and loving gifts. Senait Abraha
